The Hudson Valley – A world away
A few miles north of New York City is a lush, verdant place that is a world away from city life. The region was home to the Hudson River School of painting in the 19th century and its history is preserved in its many grand estates and picturesque villages. Once a playground for the nineteenth century’s industrial elite, the Hudson Valley is a green woodland, now dotted with vibrant communities and quaint small towns. Its character is more suburban than the Middle Hudson Valley, which is less populated and more rural in nature. The Upper Valley lies at the foothills of the Catskills and is at the heart of New York’s agricultural region.
East of the Hudson
To the East of the Hudson River lies Westchester County. A bit flashier than the west, the east side has many historic mansions, the soaring high-rise towers of White Plains, luxurious Long Island Sound homes, upscale sporting clubs, white picket-fenced equestrian facilities, tennis centers and yacht clubs on the Long Island Sound.
West of the Hudson
The quieter West side of the river is speckled with charming river towns, villages, and lake communities which offer an entirely different vibe to the East. Embedded in the hills and forests along the great river, they offer spectacular views from the Palisades of the Hudson to the south and Catskill Mountains at the northern end of the Hudson Valley. In between the two, historic sites, market towns, rolling farms, and New York’s system of state parks await.
Manhattan – Brownstones and condos at the center of the world
The city that never sleeps is a place unto itself. It was described by F. Scott Fitzgerald in “The Great Gatsby” as “…always the city seen for the first time, in its first wild promise of all the beauty and mystery in the world.” Living in the brownstone apartments, luxurious high rise condos and funky neighborhoods of Manhattan and its surrounding boroughs is an experience all of its own. New York offers the world’s finest of everything, from museums to entertainment to shopping, and to that great little deli just around the corner which delivers hot pastrami sandwiches at two in the morning.
